The main objective of the study was to assess the effect of employee performance appraisal as a strategy to management using Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) as a case study. Specifically, the study sought to:

  1. Assess the performance appraisal techniques adopted by SSNIT.
  2. Examine the usefulness of performance appraisal programmes at SSNIT.
  3. Examine the challenges encountered when conducting performance appraisal at SSNIT.

The study adopted a descriptive study approach was purely quantitative in nature. The target population of this study comprised all the workers of SSNIT (Head office) totaling 150 persons. Out of the entire population, 108 employees were sampled out for the study. A simple random sampling technique was employed to select the 108 employees out of all the employees. A questionnaire was chosen as the data collection instrument. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to analyse the data collected.
