The main aim of the study is to examine the effect of succession management strategies on employee empowerment and performance using COCOBOD as the case study. Specifically, the study will;

  1. Identify succession management practices at COCOBOD.
  2. Analyze the benefits of having a succession plan in an organization.
  3. Identify the relationship between succession management and employee empowerment and performance.
  4. Identify the challenges that come with succession management.

The study was purely quantitative in nature. The target population of this study consisted of all middle level employees of COCOBOD totaling 73. Using a simple random sampling technique, the researcher selected a sample size of 50 respondents. Questionnaires were chosen as the data collection instrument. Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS.v.16.0) was used to analyze the data gathered. In analyzing the first objective which sought to identify the succession management practices at COCOBOD. The study revealed that, the most common succession management in place at COCOBOD was mentoring/coaching. The study revealed that the major benefit of succession management practices at COCOBOD was that succession management helps the company plan for the long-term.
