The Role and Influence of Social Media on Public Relations in Government Organizations
The general objective of the study is to examine the role and influence of social media on public relations in government organizations using National Identification Authority (NIA) as the case study. The specific aim of the study is to;
- Identify the role social media plays in facilitating public relations at NIA.
- Analyze whether public relations as the communication hub of an organization has lasting influence on the public.
- Identify the challenges of public relations at NIA.
The study adopted a qualitative design approach. Qualitative research is primarily exploratory research. It is used to gain an understanding of underlying reasons, opinions, and motivations. It provides insights into the problem or helps to develop ideas or hypotheses for potential quantitative research. This was necessary because the descriptive research design provide the opportunity for thorough interpretation and explanation of the constructs for this study. The sampling method that was used is the non-probability sampling which enables the researcher to choose specifically which people are most relevant and interesting for him to use as far as the research problem is concerned. Within the frame of the non-probability sampling, a purposive and convenience sampling was used. Four employees of the university mainly The target population of this study comprise employees of NIA in the Public Relation department numbering 3 persons. Looking at the small number of the population, all three (3) employees were used as the sample.
